House U (1960) was low energy retrofitted and adapted to modern living requirements. The emphasis was placed on ecologic and healthy materials. The openings were enlarged to raise the solar gains. A roof terrace was cut into the envelope. The rooms were adapted to modern living requests: new construction quality - combined with charming details of the existing. The building envelope was isolated with a high quality composite heat isolation system made of wood-fibre and cellulosis. The building services were replaced by an efficient low temperature system. A big part of the heating and warm water demand can be provieded now by a solarthermal system. With these measures the heat energy demand could be reduced to 10% of the former amount.
