House B (1960) is being low-energy retrofitted to an Effizienzhaus 55 and divided into two living units. The house is being adapted to modern living and additionally to low-barrier requirements. The emphasis was placed on ecologic and healthy materials.


The roof truss has been replaced with a new one, that has been raised, to be able to create a 2nd living unit under the attic.

An elevator and a adapted design for bathrooms and rooms allows a low-barrier use. New building quality together with the charms of an extisting building. The building envelop is being isolated in high quality with timber and zellulose materials. The heating system has been replaced by a geothermal heat-pump. PV-Panels and a mechanical ventilation system are being placed as well.


Due to the taken measurements the energy-demand was reduced on approx. 24% of the former energydemand for heating an warmwater The CO2 emissions were reduced to 5,6 kg/m2a.
